Dumbing Down (feminising) of Education and Employment been Good or Bad for Society
Brit spelling of feminizing before you whine
I’m not convinced that education has been dumbed down. When I started kindergarten, almost half a century ago, most of the kids didn’t know their colors, or the letters of the alphabet, or numbers, or how to count. These days, kids are supposed to know all those things, and also how to read and print their names as well as a few other simple words. It used to be that a child was taught certain basics, like printing, and penmanship, and basic language use to be considered literate. Nowadays, though, a child isn’t considered literate unless s/he can do all that, plus be able to keyboard by touch (at least somewhat), use simple computer macros, and be able to do certain computer functions at the same age.
When I started grade school, EVERYONE spoke English in the mainstream classrooms. We had one black kid in the whole grade school, and he was regarded as very much an oddity. Back then, we had segregated neighborhoods, and it was legal. We also had one Jew. We had absolutely NO Hispanics, and if we had had them, they wouldn’t have been in the mainstream classrooms until they could speak English well enough to understand the lessons.
Things have changed, and I don’t think that the educational system has been dumbed down in the US. Perhaps it’s different in the UK.
